This is a great pack for hiking Perfect combo with the tactical Horse patch
Designed in Finland. Produced in the EU. Used by the FDF. Trusted worldwide.
The bigger variant of the compact Kukkaro hip pack. Versatile internal organization and external attachment points. Hip packs are very versatile as is, the Suur-Kukkaro even more so due to the numerous ways you can tweak and configure it to suit your specific needs.
Size option:

The interior features a number of options for organizing your gear: three large elastic webbing loops, two small and one large flat compartment, tie-down loops and a loop surface for attaching hook-backed organizers.
The rear wall has a large flat compartment for larger items. On top of the compartment a single row of 50 mm elastic webbing is sewn, forming three ca. 8 cm wide loops, suitable for organizing smaller items.
The front wall has two small flat compartments, with tie-down loops on top. A 20 x 10 cm loop surface on the inside of the front all allows you attachment of all sorts of hook-backed organizers etc.
A large, open-ended flat compartment on the back of the pack allows you to stow the waist strap away if needed and can be used as a large belt loop if you want to carry the Suur-Kukkaro on a belt or the hip belt of a backpack.
PALS webbing on the side wings and bottom allows you to attach small pouches, elastic cords and accessories.
Pack attachment: The webbing loops on the top and the PALS webbing on the bottom can be used to quick-attach the pack to the side compression straps of a backpack by using additional SR buckles or G-hooks. No such buckles or G-hooks are included with the pack.
Learn Finnish with Savotta: ”Kukkaro” is Finnish for a bag or pouch which is sort of a purse, but not a purse, nor just any small bag either. The prefix “suur” means big. So “The big kukkaro”! How very clever of us.
The free Finnish online dictionary www.sanakirja.org defines ”kukkaro” as ”a small, commonly leather pouch or bag, in which one carries small necessities and accessories, such as cash, tobacco etc.”

Hiked 6km and had no problems with the bag. The bag had space for the essential gear like knife, lighter, hand sanitizer, paper towels, keys and a 33cl water bottle.

This hip back has become my appreciated EDC. I also used it when shooting in combination with the Valjas EX-harness, an idea that Savotta now basically calls „the Rintamus“. I love the size, the inner organisation, the variability. I also very much like the Savotta patches. Having scored a „super rare“ edition horse patch with my last purchase has been the icing on my „Cult of Savotta“ cake. I might even buy the Real Rintamus soon.

Stevige heuptas. Rits en materiaal van goede kwaliteit. De buckle is niet gemakkelijk te vervangen moest die stuk gaan is het enige dat ik kan opmerken. Voor alle duidelijkheid, de kwaliteit van de buckle is zeker voldoende.

Savotta Suur Kukkaro is the perfect base for a minimalistic chest rig. It holds a lot of gear for it's size and the build quality is beyond great! I do highly recomend it, if someone want a cheaper, but in many ways better platform to build a nice chest rig!

If Savotta had released Suur-Kukkaro last year with Kukkaro and Askare I would have never learnt to sew hipbags myself. The size is around the same I've come up with my experiments. It is a great addition to Savotta's hipback lineup - the missing size between S of Kukkaro and L of Askare. It fits in an FDF issued plastic water canteen leaving generous room for snacks. Though I would prefer having another pocket with zipper closure on the front for EDC, Suur-Kukkaro will have it's place where simplicity is virtue. I've tested it both in forest and public concerts where you don't want to carry any extra weight or tools. It is big enough to carry essentials and small enough to not become cumbersome, easy for the security to check and you to find your tools. I modified the strap a little. The original solution where the length is adjusted both by the triglide and the buckle is slow to use. I change it to run freely through the buckle and hold the weight on the triglide. In conclusion the hipbag is simple no-bs carry solution for your essentials and I feel like I got what I paid for.

I use it as a camera bag mainly for city walks to carry an APS-C Fujifilm X-H1, with a lens on the camera and an additional lens, wallet, and phone. The total weight with load is about 1.9 kg and I can still carry it comfortably on my back or as fanny pack. Phone and wallet fit perfectly on the internal bag in the large compartment. One of the small compartment holds my lens and the other small compartment holds my keys and an extra battery. I also have an Askare hip back, but the smaller Suur Kukkaro hip back is much more unobtrusive and nondisruptiv during walks. The internal compartments neatly hold my stuff in place during walks and everything can be well stored. Acces to the bag is easy when you open the zipper, the opening is large and l can easily grab my camera or switch lenses in the bag. For my taste, the loop surface outside of the bag is a bit too large and I would have preferred some PALS webbing next to it. Unfortunately the black interior makes it harder to find small things in the bag. Also, a loop surface below and above the three elastic loops would have been great. Overall it's still an amazing bag that will last very long.

Store owner replied: Thanks so much for the thoughtful review! We’re really glad to hear the Suur-kukkaro is working so well as your city-walk camera bag! Happy shooting, and thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!
A great bag that I carry every day with me. My tip: a Trinket Pouch (hook back 10x15cm) is perfect for change and small parts.

Absolutely love it. Build quality is magnificent, the size is fantastic and especially with a bit of bungee cord at the bottom the bag has been perfect for most of the day trips I have gone on. Highly recommend!

Great bag – it’s part of my everyday kit. It looks really great and has room for all my things when I don’t have any other bags with me. I also take it with me on short or long hikes.

Just a bigger kukkaro, no fuss. Simple design and good quality as alsways.

I really like this product; I use it as an everyday pouch. Maybe a rain cover would be a nice addition. And perhaps a wider strap, or a pad that could be added to the strap to wear it on the shoulder. Also, maybe tighter elastic interior organizers. Otherwise, it’s perfect—more versatile than the Kukkaro.
