Why do spark holes appear on the roof of my sauna tent, and how can I prevent or fix them?
Avoiding, tolerating, or patching spark holes is part of the normal maintenance routine of a sauna tent. Although the fabrics are fire-retardant, and self-extinguishing, still sparks and flames can damage and burn holes in the fabric. In normal use the sauna tent will suffer burn holes on the roof at some point when glowing sparks land on the fabric. This is normal wear and tear and easily patched if needed.
Our warranty does not cover any burn damage either through normal use or misuse.
For example, a low air pressure and maybe some flurry wind can cause the sparks to drop straight on the roof rather than fly up from the chimney and fading away. This can happen even a very first time of using the sauna tent. That is a work of nature, and nobody can control that.
An important precaution when using a sauna tent is to try to minimize sparking by using good quality hardwood that produces as less sparks as possible.
Small spark holes don’t ruin the tent and are easy to repair with the tent repair kit on offer. Please note that the kit does not include glue. Any high‑quality contact adhesive will do the job.
How hot does the sauna tent get?
A sauna tent will heat up as much as you let but make sure to keep the temperature below 75°C. Overheating the sauna tent is a common mistake which can lead to damaging the tent. It is steam that makes the sauna enjoyable, not hot air!
To monitor the temperature, it is best to use a thermometer that can measure to at least 100 °C. Attach it to the line hanging from the ceiling of the sauna tent. Once the sauna stones are hot, you will get an enjoyable sauna experience. You can easily test if the stones are hot enough by throwing a little bit of water on them. If the water evaporates quickly with a proper sizzle, the sauna tent is ready for use!
How long does it take to heat a sauna tent?
Heating time varies depending on conditions, but in general it takes about 1–2 hours.
Can you use a sauna tent in winter time?
Absolutely. Sauna tents are designed to be used year round, and winter conditions suit them especially well. Going from hot to cold and back again is a natural part of the sauna experience.
Do sauna tents require special benches?
Sauna tents don’t require special benches, but strong and stable wooden benches are recommended. Avoid metal stools or benches, as they can become dangerously hot.
The ideal match for Savotta sauna tents is the Savotta Hiisi sauna benches.
What wood works best for heating a sauna tent?
Dry hardwood is the best choice when heating up the sauna tent. Dry wood ignites easily and burns steadily, and the hardwood produces fewer sparks than softwood.
