The medium size daypack of the Jääkäri family, capacity approx. 30 litres. The Jääkäri M is an improved model of the Light Border Patrol backpack originally designed for the Finnish Border Guard.
The slim design of Jääkäri M offers unhindered movement in cramped spaces and difficult terrain. The PALS attachment webbing offers a lot of options for mounting of additional pouches and gear to the outside of the pack. An internal plastic frame sheet adds rigidity the the pack, whilst the compression straps help you strap your loads down to a tight package. As a part of its Border Guard heritage the shoulder straps, waist belt and back padding are designed to carry more weight comfortably than most packs of this size.
A drawcord collar covered with a floating lid closes off the main compartment at the top. A full length side zipper offers quick access to smaller items stored within the main compartment. A zippered pocket inside the lid offers safe storage for your wallet, keys, travel documents and phone.
The floating lid and side compression straps offer a wide range of adjustability to the capacity of the pack. Strap it down tight or loosen it up depending on the carried load. The compression straps allow for further gear to be attached on the outside of the pack if necessary. External side pouches on the bottom can be used to secure tools, tripods etc. strapped to the sides of the pack.
A hydration compartment is attached to the interior back wall. Tube ports on both sides allow you to route the hydration tube from the left or right, while leaving the other port free for other uses such as antennas or cables.
PALS webbing on the hip belt, sides and lid of the pack allow you to attach additional pouches and gear. This system offers numerous options for configuring the pack to suit your specific needs. Not only for pouches though, the PALS webbing can also be used to attach utility straps, shock cord, carabiners etc. Four webbing loops at the bottom can be used to attach utility straps.
MILITARY GRADE MATERIALS
The majority of materials we use for our commercial production are the same which we use in equipment for the Finnish Defence Forces and other defence and security clients. Our most commonly used fabric in load carrying equipment is extremely wear resistant 1000D Cordura, as per FDF specs, with polyurethane coating on the inside. The webbing and edge tape we use are, again as per FDF specs, strong polyester webbing in various widths and thicknesses for different applications.
Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories are by default compliant with strict FDF specs for NIR reflection levels, as should be since these same materials are used in official military equipment.
CARRYING SYSTEM
The Jääkäri M features an internal plastic sheet frame, giving it the needed rigidity to stay upright when loaded with awkward and bulky gear.
Both the shoulder harness and waist belt are firmly padded with closed cell foam. The shoulder harness is S-shaped and includes a removable sternum strap.
The forward pulling hip belt is easy to tighten even under load. The side release buckle offers quick and easy opening when needed. The hip belt features an additional cushion for lower back support.

I have been using this pack for over 5 years now, and it has followed me through every single adventure without a single fail.

Super fast delivery, kitted it out with the aluminium frame the s-ifak and som cord for keeping essential gear within easy reach. I have been on a few trips both in the forest and a few citybreaks. Its the perfect size for 3-4 days long hikes. Really comfortable to carry even with 10kg load.
Simply an amazing pack! I got this to replace my 3 day USMC assault pack and its way better in every way. For one this can easily hold over 30L in its main compartment if you overfill and it fits me very well. I would recommend getting shoulder strap pads as these don't come with any padding. Overall this is a great pack and ill use it for years to come.
The Jaakari M backpack worked just fine and matched the carry-on for Swiss Air and IBERIA when it is not packed to it’s maximum vertical capacity. As seen it is just fine for me (1.70m height) for backpacking. The fabrics takes a bit to “break in” on the shoulder straps. The tensioners or compressions allow for a big or small load carrying trip. On the current heat wave in Europe, the vertical parallel vent channels on your back allows for some cooling. I used it with tha added aluminum frame, and it is very stable and robust.
Definitely recommended if you don’t mind a product super resistant to heavy loads but a fabric that can be a bit rough on the skin, I wouldn’t use it without at least a t-shirt. It is very robust.
Excellent sac à dos que j'utilise pour des randonnées à la journée (en photo sur une plage de Normandie), il est parfait pour transporter mon matériel photo et le pique-nique du midi. Très confortable à porter, j'apprécie sa modularité : j'y ajoute au besoin une poche zippée 2x2 (pour les clés, l'incontournable Opinel) et une poche à clip 3x4 pour la gourde.
Il semble incontestablement taillé pour durer. 100% satisfait de mon acquisition !
I have had this Jääkäri backpack since 2017. It has done day hikes and short strolls into the forests, biking trips, cross-country skiing, overnight trips in the city, commutes to the office and rucking with 20kg weight plates and many other things. All of this it has done in sunshine of summer when it is +25C°, in darkness and rain of dark autumn, and in cold and darkness of winter when it is -25C° – and every other possible variation of Nordic weather inbetween.
For all of those years of use, it had snow guard replaced under warranty (thanks Savotta for fixing it!) and few scratches in the buckles.
What I like most in the back is it simple and slim build, it makes the back easy to use and move with it in crowded trains and in the forest, and it does not interfere with skiing or biking. And for DSL-photographers, the waist belt with PALS webbing is great, you can attach a camera pouch and a lens pouch, so they are readily accessible, but not in way when it is time to eat some kilometers.

Their products are truly designed to last: you can replace worn parts, add pockets, and modify the equipment over time. This is precisely the value of a product that's well-designed from the start and truly built to last.
At first, I didn't fully understand why they cost so much, but once you use them, you understand. Here, you really pay for what you get. What impressed me most was the customer service: if you have a problem, they help you solve it without any difficulty.
For example, when I purchased the Jääkäri M, I found that the shoulder straps were missing padding; by contacting them, I was able to replace them, and now the backpack is significantly more comfortable. They also did something really nice, which they weren't required to do: they gave me patches, a keychain, and stickers. Really appreciated.

Well, I'm in love with this rough piece of equipment since 2019, when I bought it for several-day hike in Telemark mountains.
Since then, I use it for all my long-distance hikes, for sleepovers in wild, for trips in the cities, etc. As you can see (on a pic.), this rucksack can handle everything... even a fathership 😁

The Jaakari M is Absolutely my favorite backpack for any outdoor adventure like buschraft, Hiking, Mountains trips or for longer Motorcykle trip...
Perfect size for 1-3 days summer time trip
And maybe it doesnt Look like, but its very comfortable, and with this hip belt (BEST IDEA FOR 30L backpack ever made) you can easly carry like 15kg of anything as long as you like with no effort
Also Jaakari is Fully customable in terms of external pouches so u can make it fit yours needs 100%
And build quality is just second to none in term of outdoors/military gear.
Like it so much that i bought the second one for my military service and let me tell you... its really good patrol backpack or for 24h type of tasks, the "thin" hipbelt sits perfectly between duty belt and Plate Carrier so again...
Jaakari's Wide and Flat Harness is very good in term of using it with gun stock which sits very stable on it

Highly versatile. Fits in carry-on. Can be enough for a one-bag week trip if you've time to plan things out. Currently use it for european grocery runs. Had it since late 2022; no issues as of early 2026. Vastly recommended!

I tested the Jäger M and Hatka backpack for the first time over a few days in winter. I'm becoming more and more convinced! Robust (!), very comfortable to carry, even though I slightly overloaded the backpack!
This is a review after a few experiments of different kinds of loads and scenarios.
I absolutely love this backpack, I backpack frequently across Europe and do some hikes in my own country.
One of the concerns I had was the hip belt not being removable, however, straight out of the box Savotta showed me you can just buckle it around the bag itself and it won’t get in the way or make it bulkier.
I’ve tried this bag absolutely full to the brim in the Portuguese mountains and ended a 5 hour hike, under sun and also rain, absolutely fine to drive 3 hours back home, no back pain whatsoever and the bag itself saved my camera from the rain.
I’ve also taken it to the Scottish highlands and it survived rain as well super well (I’ve also bough the rain cover just in case but literally haven’t used it). A friend of mine put the backpack on his back and felt so comfortable that he forgot he had a bag while he helped me carry a few things, I had to remind him!
One thing I’ve done to ensure flexibility without any additional pouches to use the bag with airlines was to buy the elastic cord kit and put it on every face of the backpack. It increased the carrying capacity and flexibility straight away without adding any bulk. Obviously doesn’t replace a side pouch but as help for daily things is perfect expandability.
The main things I love about this bag:
The lumbar pillow is an absolute godsend.
Don’t get put off by the cylindrical shape, you’ll quickly learn how to readjust your packing style and it is phenomenal to traverse a busy airport, into a train, straight to the mountains without fuss.
Love the ruggedness but that is a given with Savotta.
Love the side zipper for quick and easy access.
Things I would personally improve upon, and with this I don’t mean to say it is not worth it, simply note these things:
Like another user has mentioned, when the bag is packed, the zipper can be a bit tricky to use.
I am 6 foot 2 and weigh around 110kg, so I’m pretty big, I would love a bit more of adjustability with the straps and hip belt, however this is my use case and nothing that renders the bag useless in any shape or form. I have used the sternum strap and hip belt with no issues or discomfort whatsoever.
Would love to see the side pouches with a slightly different design and flexibility for easier and quicker use.
With all that said I have to also state that I have been looking for a backpack for a long time, I reached out to Savotta on social media and quickly got a reply back helping my thought process and which bag would fit best my needs. They didn’t try to upsell or give me a “car salesman” experience, they were super kind and straight to the point answering all my questions.
Unfortunately I don’t have a photo in the wild so for reference here’s a city one right after landing with the bag.

This is my long-term review for the Savotta Jääkäri M as my main backpack. I have owned it since 2023 and I love it. I have abused it quite a bit, taking it out for several trips around the world, from jungle to desert to mountains. I have used it to carry about 20kg of gear, carry firewood, took it as my main bag for backpacking (traveling) and the only thing where you can tell it has been used is by some dirt; there are no signs of wear at all. But I also have some things to criticize! This is important for you bigger folks. I am 191 cm with 96kg, lean. Since the backpack is one-size, it may be a bit too short to wear the hip belt properly. Speaking of the hip belt, I exchanged it for a 40mm belt; the 25mm one cuts into your belly because it sits too high. Also the shoulder straps are a bit too short as well if you want to use the hip belt. The sternum strap sits maybe 5cm below my collarbones, or the hip belt is over my belly button. Having said this, it doesn't change anything; I can still comfortably carry about 12kg for several kilometers. Just another thing: the M does have a zipper on the right front side, but if it is fully packed, it is quite hard to get stuff from the bottom through the zipper. It is a top-loader. Don't let me scare you off; it is an amazing backpack, just be aware of it! If you are looking for a great, indestructible backpack, congratulations, you have found it!

The Jääkäri M works really good, komplement side bags at 6lit is really nice too have, you can easily separate food and gods. Nice colour to the nature.
I'll likely add to this review in the future, but for how, and out of respect for Savotta I thought a temporary one will do.
I've had this pack for quite some time, and I've added everything I can onto/into from Savotta. It's superb, a true masterpiece in its own right.
Comfortable for exhaustive backcountry camps, adaptable to extreme summit's and glacial travels, generally rather stylish, and a pack I hope to never replace (it's rugged as hell too).
Well my story with the backpack is bittersweet, I explain in the end why.
Product review: 5/5 10/10 100/100, everything of this backpack was so nice, from the quality of the materials to the look (looks INCREDIBLE!!!). I think it's a good back pack for 1-2 days but if you wanted to load it you can (I carried 17kg in it!). Although I am a big supporter of this amazing brand, i found a minor CON on this backpack: shoulder straps are, imo, a little bit thin and can be uncomfortable carrying heavy stuff. Besides that, it's amazing guys, a backpack that will last for decades! Unless it gets rob like mine 😭😭. After one summer of using it someone stole it from me... that's why is a bittersweet story. That been said, 100% recommend this product.

My favorite backpack. Very very solid and also quite confortable. It's been 3 years that i use it for all my trip. Hiking, climbing (very abrasion resistant on lava rock), kayaking, alpinism till 5000 meters... Amazing
Incredibly tough and durable backpack. While there are no fancy specs, there is all you need for a multi day backpack. I use it for hiking (enough space for 2-3 days of gear, food and water especially with the extendable top), backcountry skiing (plastic will resist to -30°C temperature) and rock climbing. I have been using it often for 3 years and there is no signs of wear yet. The finish makes it water resistant under mild rain and you can complement this with a waterproof cover as needed. The only thing I would improve is the padding on the shoulder strap which is very thin so they can be a bit uncomfortable when your pack gets very heavy. I highly recommend this product
A great backpack for weekend trips, but also for city trips to sporting events. The modularity and expansion possibilities are huge. I personally use it for 2-day trips and climbing events, where its durability comes into play.

Der kleine Jäger M ist der ideale Begleiter als Daypack oder auch auf Reisen (Ideal als kleine Tasche im Flieger). Was man hier klar wissen muss ist, dass es kein reiner Frontloader ist. Man kann Ihn zwar über den seitlichen Reisverschluss öffnen und hat so einen schnellen Zugang, dies ist jedoch nicht vergleichbar mit einem Frontloader der z.b. durch einen rundumlaufenden Reißverschluss stattfindet. Wenn man so etwas sucht, sollte man einen anderen in Betracht ziehen. Für mich ist der Rucksack jedoch trotzdem perfekt, da er super robust und unverwüstlich ist. Er verfügt über kein dickes Meshpolster was erstmal wenn es vollgesaugt ist lange zum trocknen braucht und ist so relativ schnell trocken. Er hat einen hohen tragekomfort, es passt super viel rein, hat seitlich Platz für Trinken oder Anderes. Ich war mit Ihm in Vietnam unterwegs und hier hat er sich bewiesen was er kann, selbst als der Tropische Regen zugeschlagen hat! Klare Kaufempfehlung für einen treuen Begleiter

J’ai été très surpris du confort de celui-ci. Qui au premier abords est un produit destiné au pays plus « froid », alors que le port du sac avec un t-shirt ne brûle absolument pas les épaules.

This backpack is great! I used it for multiple daytrips and even a 3-day journey. It holds up very well and i like it more and more the longer i use it. I bought it, because i wanted a backpack produced in Europe that can last a whole life.
In sweden it was used for several kilometers of hiking, in which it was packed lightly. The pack is very comfortable, even though it has no padding.
I pushed the limits of my backpack for the 3-day trip, in which i had to pack 15+ kg of weight and a lot of volume. We walked over 90 kilometers in these 3 days. A bigger backpack would have been more suited, but the Jääkäri M worked perfectly.
For my next big journey i was planning on buying your biggest backpack for the improved carrying system and the volume, but 600 Euro is too much for me. I am looking for any used products for under 450 Euro.

Best mid-size Backpack, I ever owned. All I need for a 3 day trip fits into it and if I want to carry extra stuff, I add vertical pouches.
I also bought the aluminium frame, which provides additional stability.

This is a phenomenal backpack that is built to last a lifetime. I have been using mine for 5 years now and it still looks new. The pack is highly adaptable to a wide variety of needs and uses, from urban carry, day hikes, overnight camps and multi-day adventures. For longer trips with a heavier load, I highly recommend adding an aluminum frame to enhance the carrying experience. The 4L side pouches make a great addition to the pack for extra storage. During this past winter, I enjoyed adding the HATKA on to the back of the JÄÄKÄRI M for additional sustainment items.
For lighter loads that would be used on day hikes or even warm weather overnight camps, the plastic frame sheet in the pack is more than sufficient.

As I love to try new things to get the best of the best, after using Karrimor Sabre backpacks for 20 years (which I did like a lot), I wanted to try Savotta's backpacks.
First I got the JÄÄKÄRI M, and I absolutely love it. In my first hike, it was sore on my shoulders, but it was the time needed so the JÄÄKÄRI took the shape of my shoulders, because at my second hike with it it was perfectly fine. It's been 4 years now, and I absolutely love it.
I have added 4 pouches on it to make it very versatile for my use, I love it.
In 2021 I also got the JÄÄKÄRI XL for my treks... it's a marvel...
And today I'm looking to get a second JÄÄKÄRI M that I will set without external pouches for climbing. I will try a new color for the pleasure !!

First off all, it’s seriously the best purchase I’ve ever made. I use backpacks everyday and I have more than 10 different (outdoor-)backpacks, but since I bought the Jääkäri M it’s the only one I used, except the Hatka 12 for walks with my dog. It’s been outside with me for over 10 days, 7 of that in muddy, rainy conditions. Only a little bit of moisture comes through seams, but that’s fully normal. The quality is on of the best I’ve ever seen.
On The other side in combination with the hatka 12 and some side pouches It’s enough space for a week abroad in summer or a long weekend in the winter. I’ve tested both.
I have a shoulder injury and it’s the only backpack, except the jääkäri L, that I can carry over 20kg (you can easily overpack it) without getting any problems on trips.
Worth every cent!
Extremely well-built and durable. Close to waterproof (there are still multiple opening of course, one is a zipper), comfortable fit, even for an overweight person like myself. High quality buckles and stitching, I hope to enjoy this for years if not decades to come!
It's entirely fine. The pack seems to hold far more than the supposed 30 litres. and the side zipper is great to acces awkwardly placed items. The carrying system is kind of showing its age, and could really use Kahakka/Kantamus-style shoulder straps and loadlifters for better balance. And mesh pads on the back, because not every end user is wearing body armour. The side pockets are small for anything but smallest of items and the army issue 1l bottle.
I sold mine, but it will propably outlast myself and the next owner. With some updates and 500D material here and there (or everywhere), this would be a superb backpack. And it could be available in Multicam Tropic...
