FULL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Kantamus 60L is the larger model in the Kantamus backpack lineup. A large, all-around multi-day pack. Internal aluminium frame supports heavier loads, shoulder strap attachment is adjustable to fit users of different length. Scalable and compressible to adapt to changing carrying needs. Main bag capacity ca. 60 litres, with ca. 12 litres of extra space in the lid and many external attachment points for additional side pouches and gear.
“Kantamus” is Finnish for “a carried load”, typically something a bit heavier that you carry along. The Kantamus is an all-around general-purpose backpack, suitable for various uses. The scalability and compression allow you to adapt and adjust the pack for changing situations and needs, whilst the internal aluminium frame offers rigid support and weight transfer.
With a main compartment of ca. 60 litres, plus 12 litres in the lid, the Kantamus 60L fits sleep systems, spare clothing, food and water for longer multi-day outings. The numerous external attachment points for pouches and additional gear allow you to adapt it according to your needs.
Main pack body
The main compartment is accessible from the top via a roll top closure and through a vertical zipper on the right side. Inside is a hydration bladder compartment, with two tie-down loops and a hydration bladder attachment webbing tab on the top. Each side of the pack has one tube port.
The side zipper on the left side leads into a large, flat compartment on the front of the pack. Suitable for stuff like tarps and other flat packing gear.
The sides and front have generous PALS webbing for attaching extra pouches and gear. The bottom has two rows of PALS webbing for attaching gear usingpacking straps or elastic cord.
Two side compression straps with SR buckles on either side of the pack offer both compression and a means of carrying long, bulky tools and equipment or quickly attaching additional loads, such as a Hatka 12L daypack equipped with suitable buckles.
The slightly bellowed side pouches allow you to carry long tools and such on the sides. These are relatively flat and low, not intended to carry water bottles or such, for that we recommend adding a GP pouch to the hip belt.
Floating lid
The lid has a large main compartment, capacity ca. 12 litres, accessible from a zipper on the neck side. When filled the lid “balloons” up, and when empty it lays flat and tight. Great for rainwear, puffy jackets etc. When tightened the lid compresses down, keeping the contents tight. The top of the lid has an elastic cord for retention of light gear. The underside of the lid has two rows of PALS webbing, suitable for attaching a sleeping pad or other gear.
The front of the lid has a small, zippered pocket with a webbing loop with D-ring inside, good for small trinkets and valuables.
Pro-tip: The lid can also be removed and replaced with, for example, our Askare hip pack or a Hatka 12L equipped with suitable buckles (not included with the pack). This allows you to tweak the Kantamus into a modular load carrying system.
Carrying system
An internal tubular aluminium frame gives the Kantamus rigidity and good weight transfer to the hips. The back is padded with a thick and stiff closed cell foam pad, placed in a compartment with hook-and-loop closure. The pad can be removed for use as a sitting/kneeling pad, and the compartment can be used to carry other equipment, a tarp or poncho for example.
The padded shoulder straps attach to steel D-rings, allowing articulation. The attachment height of the shoulder straps is adjustable to fit properly different length users, from approx. 165 to 195 cm. The load lifters can be threaded through two webbing loops to adjust the point at which they part from the shoulder straps, allowing adjustment according to user length and preference. The sternum strap is removable and can be moved up and down the shoulder straps as desired.
The hip belt consists of two sewn-on pieces of 50 mm webbing with PALS channels. The rest of the hip belt assembly (three pads and the front closure straps) are threaded onto these. Each part of the belt can be removed and replaced without sewing if needed. The belt closes using a super secure Berg buckle, very easy to use, even with thick and cold weather gloves on.
Rugged and repairable
The main body of the pack is made from 1000D Cordura for high abrasion resistance, with details such as the back pad compartment and roll top being made from lighter and less coarse 500D. The zippers are covered and have two pullers, so you always have a backup in case one puller fails.
The buckles, lid, shoulder straps and hip belt components can be easily removed and replaced in case of damage, without the need of sewing or specialized tools, allowing for easy repairs over the packs service life.

Most comfortable rucksack I’ve worn with heavy loads. It even doubles as a child carrier, as the lid surface (ymmv) fits even an eight-year-old comfortably when they’re juiced out.
I can heartily recommend the outdoors, in general.
This backpack has been with me for almost a year now, and it has seen multiple war zones, fields, snow, mud and did its justice in Ukraine for over 3 times now. It is sturdy, spacious and very functional. It is comfortable on the back and the hip band really provides the edge you need on long hauls. The quality is to die for and will continue to use this piece for the coming tours.
I’m very satisfied with the Kantamus 60L backpack so far. It offers plenty of space and easily fits everything I need, while still feeling extremely robust and well-built. The materials and overall construction give a lot of confidence, especially for heavier loads.
I haven’t had the chance to test it in warmer conditions yet, so I’m still curious how the back ventilation will perform in summer. However, in winter conditions it has been absolutely excellent and very comfortable to carry. Overall, it feels like a reliable, durable backpack built for serious use.
Savotta knocked it out of the park with the Kantamus 60. The improved shoulder straps and waist strap, along with the frame, support heavy loads really well. The external flat pocket is really handy for storing items that you want to grab quickly (waterproofs or a tarp), the lid pocket is massive, and the vertical zip gives you quick access to the main compartment. PALS webbing throughout enables you to add pouches to increase capacity if required. A fantastic bombproof pack.
Excellent packability, and it handles heavy loads very well. The heavier it gets, the more comfortable it becomes. During the test hike, with 17 kg load on 20 km per day, the shoulder straps were still comfortable. The hip belt needed about 15–20 km to break in; until then it pressed a bit, but afterward it became incredibly comfortable. First impressions are very positive. I especially like that you don’t have to worry about the fabric. Neither branches nor rocky ground can harm it; the Cordura withstands everything.”
I was able to transport an entire Hawu 8 tent in there, the only thing I had to carry separately was the Stove itself, yes it was 30kg plus, but actually quite manageable due to the structure of the backpack itself and the straps in all the right places to customise the fit and distribute the weight. Some bungee in the right places also made sure some of the tools were no longer dangling around, but nice and snug to the backpack :)
First of all, before I go into detail, I love the backpack theres no other way around it.
When I was considering this backpack I had a few concerns:
1. The new hip belt system
2. The non ventilated back of the pack
Those were a little suspicious on paper, the reviews online didnt convince me much in their quality and if they would be better. But as we all know, Savotta does what it does well.
The hip belt is amazing, stable and super fast and easy to use. I love it…
The part of the backpack that rests on your back, is non ventilated but that did not create any issue for me, the hip belt created a small gap between the pack when you wear it which is enough, and if you get yourself to the point of sweating, you would sweat no matter if the back part is ventilated or not. So again, this is not a issue AT ALL.
The pack carries weight like nothing. Its a solid build and another win for the Savotta track record in my opinion.
Sadly I cant compare this backpack to other backpacks from Savotta since Im new and only got the Hatka some time ago, but I can say that I dont regret spending one single euro on this beast of a pack. And Savotta has earned my trust and respect and continued business, Ill definitely be buying more. I cannot find better words to describe how satisfied I am, thank you!

First backpacking weekend with the new Kantamus 60L ! I absolutely love it ! Before this Kantamus I was using the Jaakari XL for my backpacking trips, and it was great, but now that I've tried the Kantamus, I like it a lot more because it feels wider and lower overall so the charge feels closer to my back instead of having some weight high up behind my head, so while walking I found the balance being much better for my taste.
Plus they managed to make it way lighter with only 2.8 kg, and that's a huge positive for me.

I love Savotta for it's tough gear that lasts a life time. I also love the fact almost everything is sourced from within Europe and made in Europe.
The Kantamus 60L is no different. This pack is build like a brick and without doubt it could last me a life time with proper care.
I'm personally a sucker for organizing, flexibility and modularity. Savotta plays into that really well with the Kantamus (in my opinion a big upgrade over older generation Savotta bags). I personally use mine in combination with either the Hatka or the Askare.
The total package is and spacious and well organized at the same time.

Sivussa oleviin verkkotaskuihin menee esimerkiksi pitkulaiset juomapullot tai KESsi. Rinkka istuu selkään hyvin. Säädin selän pituutta napsun pienemmäksi, mikä oli helposti tehtävissä. I have a big Savotta Rinka fromt the early 90s and thought a better one can't be made, which is a bit sad since there is no good reason to get something new. But then I saw that, although it is not much older than 30 years, the shoulder straps showed some sign of wear at the lower end. And then I fell for a youtube ad and the Kantamus 60 came into action. It has worked perfectly so far, moderate weights (20-25kg) are even more comfortable to carry compared to my older equipment. Funcionality, versatility and quality appears to be top notch.
