FULL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
”Kahakka” is Finnish for a “small battle” or “skirmish”, quite suitable for what is literally a small combat pack. The “special thing” about the Kahakkas is that these really aren’t special at all. These are serious packs for the 99% of users who need a straightforward all-around combat/daypack with enough scalability and versatility for various jobs and changing situations.
The Kahakka packs are made for the realities of military use. We have over half a century of experience of making gear for the Finnish Defence Forces, who prefer their gear to endure up to and beyond a decade of vigorous use. The Kahakkas are rugged indeed, but we have not sacrificed functionality, nor dumbed down the design, for the sake of durability. What we have here is a peculiar mix of functionality, comfort and traditional Savotta ruggedness.
The Kahakka 15L has a total capacity, side pouches included, of ca. 20 litres plus numerous attachment options for extra gear on the outside. The Kahakka 15L is a very compact pack, with enough capacity for essential personal and mission/task related equipment, including rainwear etc.
Details and features
The main compartments fold top is quick and easy to open and close using two SR buckles. Fast like a zipper, but super reliable in extended use in mud, sand and snow. Inside is a hydration bladder / radio compartment, with two tie-down loops and a hydration bladder attachment webbing tab on the top. Each side of the pack has one antenna/cable/tube port.
The pleated, expandable side pouches allow quick access to equipment such as water bottles, E-tools, bolt cutters etc. Each pouch has a capacity of ca. 2,5 litres, filled so that the top side compression strap tightens the pouch shut. When empty the pouches lay neat and flat. Vertical webbing loops keep the side compression straps neatly in place. The pouches have water drainage holes on the bottom.
Two side compression straps with steel G-hooks on either side of the pack offer both compression and a means of quickly strapping gear to the outside of the pack. The G-hooks are also a means for adding extra pouches/bags to the back of the pack.
The Kahakka 15L has one external zippered pouch, a flat one on the front of the pack with a webbing loop with D-ring inside, good for small trinkets and valuables. The zipper has two pullers with generous cord loops to silence them and make the zipper easier to use with thick gloves on.
PALS webbing on the front and bottom allows attachment of extra gear using elastic cord or packing straps. Webbing loops above the side pouches can be used to secure gear with cord, carabiners or packing straps.
The back is padded and supported with a thick and stiff closed cell foam pad, placed in an open topped compartment on the outside of the pack. The pad can quickly be removed and reinserted, you can use it as a sitting/kneeling pad or use the compartment to carry other equipment, a tarp or poncho for example.
The padded, contoured shoulder straps attach to steel D-rings. The D-rings allow the shoulder straps to turn and conform to various body shapes. The shoulder straps can be removed and replaced if needed. The sternum strap is removable and can be moved up and down the shoulder straps as desired.
Rugged and repairable
The main body of the pack is made from 1000D Cordura for high abrasion resistance, with details such as the back pad compartment and fold top sides being made from lighter and less coarse 500D. The zippers are covered and have two pullers, so you always have a backup in case one puller fails.
The shoulder straps are easily replaceable if damaged, the bottom straps can be replaced with any length of 25 mm webbing if needed.
All plastic buckles can be removed and replaced without sewing. The side compression straps use steel G-hooks, which will not fail and offer the option to quickly hook on extra gear to the back of the pack.
Kahakka 15L vs 25L, which one to choose?
First of all we are not the experts on what you need, you are. The big difference between these two is of course the size, the 25L being considerably bigger than the 15L and also having a belt and additional boxy pouch on top of the lid.
If you commonly need to carry bulky winter clothing on top of your other essential gear, as we do here in Finland: get the 25L. If you want a streamlined, compact pack and don’t need that extra 10 litres of space: get the 15L. Either way both packs offer many options to add extra gear to the outside, and good compression straps to tighten down the pack when half full.

Careful everyone, if you say Khahakka 3 times in the woods, you summon the spirit of Simo Häyhä, and if there are no Russians for him to haunt, you have to appease his spirit with all of your cured meats. It is known.
This pack is built like farm equipment, distributes it's load evenly, and is fully adjustable to a larger frame. At 15 liters, it sounds small, but it's been molded by Finnish Forest Shaman and is not bound by physical dimensions. They don't include that information in the product description so as not to scare people, you have to email them. The side pockets are amazingly useful, they fit all manner of tools, water containers and gear. A 20 liter dry bag fits in the main compartment and conforms to the square shape better than a 15l and is just small enough to roll down and clip, keeping your rain gear/insulation layers or sensitive stuff dry. I use mine as a woods day bag that fits all the essentials (Food, emergency shelter, shemagh, lighter, navigation, small ifak, first aid, cordage and rigging, water/ filter system, repair, signaling, power bank, headlamp, knife.) It carries a 15 pound load like it's nothing, the side pockets hold my canteens firmly with no wiggle, and the main compartment is easily organized and accessible. It reminds me of a mussette bag, if it went to Finland, got rebuilt as a tractor and has returned ready to outlive us all.
The backpack fits perfectly on the back. It feels bigger than its size thanks to the side pockets. It has been in everyday use and on various trips. It is also well-suited for mountain biking.

I've been really happy with the Savotta accessories I've added to my Kahakka 15. Everything feels well thought out, durable, and genuinely useful in the field.
One thing that really impressed me was the pack's carrying capability. I was able to load 5 kg of nails and carry a hammer and the setup handled the weight without any issues. It proved that the Kahakka 15 is much more capable than its compact size suggests.
Pack Straps - I was able to securely strap a stuffsack to my pack with no issues. Simple, versatile, and reliable.
S-IFAK Vertical Mount - Fits my Ortovox medical kit perfectly, making it easy to access while keeping everything secure.
Rolltop Stuffsack - A great fit for carrying my hiking boots, keeping the rest of my gear clean.
Zipped GP Pouch 2x2 - Perfect size for the essentials like disinfectant, sunscreen, and a headlamp. It keeps small items organised and easy to find.
Side Pouch 4L - Fantastic for carrying a day's food ration, and it also had no problem securely carrying a hammer when I needed it. The extra capacity is incredibly useful.
Elastic Strap Keepers - A small accessory that makes a big difference. They keep all the loose strap ends neat and tidy.
Sitting Pad - An absolute lifesaver. It came in handy when I had to sit on a wet rock, making breaks much more comfortable.
Overall, every accessory has proven to be practical rather than just "nice to have." Savotta's attention to functionality and quality really shows, and together with the Kahakka 15 they make for a highly capable, organised, and versatile hiking setup.

1.5 year review:
bought in September 2024 and used it as my daily work backpack ever since. i use it mainly for laptop carrying 'duty' on bicycle and for travelling, since it fits perfectly under airplane seats, as it is within hand luggage size limit. also preferred choice for day trips/hikes.
overall i give it 9/10. its good enough that i never felt like getting anything else but its not the perfect do it all solution, since it offers just slightly too little adjustable space. maybe 3-4L more would make it perfect for me.
build quality and durability:
[8.5] only obvious signs of wear are the PU coating in some areas and minimal fraying of some very stressed areas of the straps. since its only been 1.5 years, i hope this trend of PU coating rubbing off isn't going to accelerate.
but besides that, the pu coating is actually water proof and generally durable. the plastic buckles, steel rings and the sewing are very durable and i believe they'll last longer than the fabric. The fabric shows some small signs of fraying but it's hardly visible.
the replacable back padding seems to be a little stiffer than new but not an issue yet.
size and usability:
[8] its perfect for every day use, unless you want to buy groceries. my biggest pain point are the top buckles, because those straps are not adjustable. so even if you have theoretically 20L capacity, you still need another belt or cord to keep stuff from falling out of the open top (which has happend to me).
the lack of padding is not a big deal for me, since i could fit a big hardshell laptop case 15" inside with enough room for the other daily needed stuff. also i use the front straps for my big cycling U-lock.
the huge expandable side pockets are amazing.
comfort:
[10] for me perfect. best i ever had. the replacable back padding is stiff so nothing inside will poke you too much while still being soft enough. i dont miss the ventilation that other brands propagate. the steel rings for the shoulder straps do wonders in terms of comfort.
Kahakka 15 lt built like a tank!!! I did some modifications on it by adding g hooks from the bottom of back pack all the way up and it will give some support just like to the kahakka25 and i really love the results 💪🙏😎🫡❤️
I’ve been using the Savotta Kahakka 15L backpack as my daily EDC, and honestly it’s been my go-to for everything. I bring it around for school, work, MMA gym, and even when I’m cycling, and it hasn’t let me down.
Even though it’s only 15L, it can fit quite a lot. I usually pack extra clothes, my boxing shoes, and whatever other stuff I need for the day, and it still manages fine. It doesn’t feel bulky, which is something I like, especially when I’m moving around a lot.
The build quality is really solid. The bag feels super durable and tough, like I don’t have to baby it at all. I can just throw my stuff in and go, and it handles daily use with no problem.
Overall, this bag just works for me. It’s simple, reliable, and does everything I need it to do. Definitely my main bag right now, and I’m keen to see how it performs when I bring it overseas for travel.

I have served in the British army for 16 years and had many rucksacks and bergans, I'm now 65 and wanted something tough, reliable and well made with a capacity up to 20 liters.
I purchased this pack as it has great reviews, is the perfect capacity and also made in Finland, well I wasn't disappointed, this pack is absolutely amazing.
The build quality is excellent and the design is fantastic, it caters for every occasion and fits everything in for a very comfortable day out.
Inside fits a 3 liter water bladder but also has x 2 side pockets for my Grayl water purifier and 1 liter canteen.

I absolutely love my Savotta Kahakka 15. The build quality is incredible, Savotta really knows how to make gear that feels bombproof and refined at the same time.
I use it as my daypack for forest walks, and it fits everything I need. My large 1.4-liter insulated bottle slides in perfectly on one side, and on the other I’ve built a surprisingly secure system for my trekking poles using the webbing and an elastic cord. It works flawlessly and stays put.
The pack is comfortable, well-organized, and clearly built to last years of real use. And honestly? It even gets compliments. A random girl actually told me, “That’s a beautiful backpack.” Not gonna lie, Savotta absolutely crushed it with this pack
Only downside? Now I’m stuck in the most Savotta-owner kind of dilemma possible: do I upgrade to the Kantamus 40L… or go full in and grab the 60L? Tough decision

I work on Stklm ARN airport and have to go throu security and the Coffee mug isnt drop safe, thats why its hanging on the outside. I also have self made (hajk bricka) in it.
I just bought your smallest raincover.
It fits my Jäkeri M perfect but it is a litle big for Kahakka 15.
I am loking forward to alpine ski with it the upcoming winter.

This little pack made me wanna explore Savotta more and more. Amazing quality in comparison to my previous packs. Imo Kahakka 15 is a perfect choice for EDC, especially when your life style requires durability from you gear :)
I've been using the Kahakka 15l for 4 months now, almost on a daily basis for my commute to work. I added an elastic cord, a phone pouch (from Tasmanian Tiger, to one shoulder strap (had to improvise a bit, as the webbing was at the wrong angle, but it works very well now)) and a happy patch.
I sometimes put my laptop in the compartment for the hydration bladder and it works well. For more organisation, I use a pouch for what I may need on the commute or at work. I am very happy with it. It may seem weird to use such a bag for commuting, but it's a long commute and outdoorsy, so I'm happy I can put the bag down on any floor, don't have to worry about low hanging branches, some dirt and rain, etc. and I've also used the sitting pad when I got stuck and had to wait a bit. For me, it fits my laptop, my lunch, drink and rain gear (in the outside puches), my organisational pouch and has room to spare for some extra clothing or something of the like. The zipper outside seems very safely tucked, so I don't worry about putting my keys and money there.
Sometimes, I use the bag for small travels or hikes and I've been very happy with it then, too. It is very comfortable, especially, when you tighten the straps. Sometimes feels like having no backpack at all (I'm 1,70 m).
This is the perfect backpack for everyday carry. Great for city use or day hiking. Although it looks small and compact, it can carry a lot of things in its main compartment and side pockets. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.
