A small and simple looking yet surprisingly multifunctional daypack. Suitable and adaptable for a wide range of uses. Clip and strap it on a larger pack for use as a ”grab and go” daypack.

Hatka 12L is a lightweight, compact and simple daypack, yet extremely multifunctional and modular. Use it as a small straightforward daypack for everyday carry, hiking or short trips, or attach it to a larger backpack as a quick access or “grab and go” daypack.
At first glance the Hatka 12L may look like just a roll-top bag with shoulder straps, but there is a lot going on when you take a closer look. This design was conceived as part of a special military load carrying system, which needed a small daypack that could easily be attached to a larger backpack.
On the outside you have four PALS webbing rows. These can be used to attach pouches, bungee cords and buckles for quickly attaching/detaching the Hatka to a larger backpack. The four webbing loops on the bottom can be used for elastic cords, allowing you to carry stuff beneath the pack.
Two long internal compartments are there to organize smaller stuff, and the D-ring offers a point for securing small valuables. The large external compartment against your back is big enough for a hydration reservoir or tarp.
The simple 25 mm webbing shoulder straps are attached to D-rings and completely removable and thus can be replaced with the Kahakka backpack harness for more comfort when carrying heavier loads. The webbing straps can also be setup as a single diagonal shoulder strap. These are designed as lightweight, packable, and easy to stow away for the purpose of attaching the Hatka onto larger packs.
Clip and strap it on a larger pack for use as a ”grab and go” daypack. This can be done by stuffing it under the lid or by using pack straps. The really awesome way is to attach the Hatka to the side compression or lid straps by using G-hooks or PALS-mounted SR buckles. You will need four of these to securely attach the Hatka 12L to the back of your Jääkäri M, L, XL, or Kantamus 40L and 60L . Please note that these attachment buckles ARE NOT INCLUDED with the pack.
When needed you can add a lot of gear to the outside of this otherwise quite small pack. The PALS webbing allows you to attach pouches, but it (and the four webbing loops on the bottom) can also be used to thread elastic cord to carry rainwear, tarps etc.
As the Hatka is in many ways a spiritual successor of the venerable 202 daypack, it too features very rudimentary shoulder straps. This cuts down weight and bulk which is great when carrying it strapped to a larger pack. If needed, you can easily replace these with more advanced padded options like the Kahakka backpack harness.
Although there are not too many compartments going on you can still make great use of these when packing smartly. The main compartment is of course where you stuff your big things, the two small internal compartments can fit all sorts of small stuff and even water bottles. The D-ring can be used to clip-on or tie small valuables securely in place. The external compartment against your back can be used to carry a closed cell foam pad or Sitting pad as a framesheet, or to carry a tarp or hydration bladder.
”Hatka” is a peculiar Finnish word, it is used solely in the phrase ”ottaa hatkat” which means ”to escape” or ”to sort of hastily take your leave”. The Hatka pack was conceived whilst prototyping small, quick-detachable escape-and-evade sort of survival packs for a military project, so you now you know how this peculiar name makes perfect sense.

It's been my "laptop and bottle" daily companion for over a year now. Perfect if you're just have to take a very small amount of stuff. Realized it works best for me as a "rugged stuff sack with straps" rather than a little full backpack: So, I no longer use the Keikka straps that I bought with it and have put my MPP foam in my laptop bag rather than the back panel. However, make sure to get the shock cord! From time to time, it also comes in handy to clip it on my Jäk L or my Kahakka. Just a nice piece of gear when you want to carry more than fits in a hipbag, but too little to warrant a real backpack!

Over a year later, Hatka is a regular companion on my hikes. It’s large enough to carry what I need, without weighing a whole lot. Minimalist straps are surprisingly comfortable. The two inside pockets attached to the main bag are great for carrying water bottles and various equipment. Of course, the durability is unmatched. Would definitely recommend.

If you want to stay home all day and do nothing, don't buy this backpack. Once you get it, it will force you to fill it up with random junk and make you go out and do things like hiding in the bushes and taking pictures of animals. It will also be light and comfortable on your back and it will fit more stuff that you imagined could fit in 12l.

Very convenient daypack/EDC bag. Works great together with a belt rig and can be used for anything from city errands to day hikes. Whenever I take my wife out on ventures she likes to carry it, because of its sleek and small size. My only gripe with it is the unpadded straps, which makes sense seeing as it is a SERE pack, but can dig a bit when carrying heavier loads. Consider buying some extra straps with this pack!

Store owner replied: Thank you for the thoughtful review! We're really glad to hear the pack works well for both everyday use and outdoor adventures. For heavier loads we recommend switching the existing shoulder straps with the Kahakka backpack harness, which adds extra support and distributes weight more evenly across the shoulders. It’s a great upgrade for those longer treks or heavier carry days. Thanks again for the feedback and happy exploring!

I've been wanting Savotta stuff for years and now I finally got this beautiful Hatka pack. Great quality and a smart, zero nonsense design. The patch that I received for free is also awesome. Thank you and I look forward to ordering more in the future!

When it came I bought it for my child, as he loved my Jääkäri M with the happy patch. I could not imagine it could be a backpack for myself due to the non existing padding of the shoulder straps. The Hatka is great for children. When they cannot carry it anymore on a hike, I can just attach it to my Jääkäri M. I then tested it myself as well and fall in love with it. Meanwhile it is my daily backpack for work and for business trips; containing a seat cushion, my laptop, a water bottle and some other equipment. A few months later, when my mother's backpack got damaged, she also asked me to order one for her as well (explicitly requested with the happy patch by her).

Having the Hatka for a few weeks now, I can tell you that it is one of the most multifunctional yet comfortably simple pieces of gear, I have ever seen. Also having packed and repacked it about a hundred times now, I am surprised to say, that it can actually fit all the necessary Gear for one or two nights In the great outdoors :-). And although my bigger Backpack is not a Savotta, The Hatka makes a fantastic addition to it, when I go on larger trips.

Sadly the stitching on the “lid” didn’t hold up well, and is already starting to come loose. I haven’t used it in the field only to carry around my thermos for the last couple weeks.

Super day Backpack for little hikes, University (Tablet, Bottle of Water etc.) or as a grab and go bag on big hikes combined with Jäkaari L (for example getting water etc.). After 1 day non-stop rain the backpack was little wet inside, although the double layer on the front prevents sierious problem. Easy to dry over fire. Recommend! Top!

A great little pack! I use thls for my daytrips and as a supplement on my Savotta XL backpack. Its a neat little versatile pack with modular options. The straps that comes with it is OK, but you can remove them and add on Keikka shoulder straps with buckles with removeable pins instead. Still, a great little pack made with heavy duty fabrics. Also, made in Europe!

For day hikes, quick trips, and even warm weather camping, the HATKA is one of my favorites. During the winter, I fit it onto the back of my Jääkäri M for additional sustainment. HATKA is simple, light, durable and very adaptable. Adding some shock cord greatly increases your carrying options. Things like a jacket, poncho or tarp can easily be lashed to the outside of the pack without taking up space inside the bag. The shoulder straps are more than sufficient for most loads. That being said, recently I have experimented with some other options, including ALICE straps and SÄRMÄ TST flat straps. Currently, I have added a KEIKKA harness, which has been working out tremendously well. The metal buckles of the harness can be pressed through the D rings on the HATKA for a direct fit. Adding the Foam Mat into the back sleeve pocket makes a nice addition as well. I have also experimented with adding the 4L side pouches to extend the capacity up to 20 plus liters. It allows room for the FDF sleeping pad in between the side pouches. Adding some compression straps snugs it all together nicely, making a very useful, yet compact rig. Lastly, I must say, the HATKA pairs up extremely well the ASKARE. The hip pack forms a shelf for the HATKA to ride on. thanks highly recommend pairing the two up.

Store owner replied: Kiitos paljon arvostelustasi! He osaavat arvioida ja korjata repeämän, jotta Hatka pääsee taas kunnolla käyttöön. gearcare[at]savotta.fi
