A simply clever combination of a ground sheet and regular sleeping pad.
This fine piece of sleeping gear was developed for the Finnish Defence Forces in the 1980’s. The additional insulation and protection the fabric cover offers adds comfort in snowy and nasty terrain. Two integrated elastic webbing loops provide a simple and effective way to keep the pad rolled during transport and storage.
At its core this is basically a simple piece of closed cell foam, just like any simple sleeping pad really. The special thing is the cover. The lightweight, waterproof cover does a lot of things. It protects the cell foam from punctures, tears and abrasion. It adds some insulation as it traps air inside it. Maybe most notably it offers a small personal groundsheet, the sides of the cover extend sideways 25 cm on both sides, providing you with a 100 cm wide clean surface.
One side of the pad is covered with a rubber coated fabric piece, the same size as the internal closed cell foam pad itself. This provides a non-slip surface which keeps either the sleeping pad itself or you or your sleeping bag firmly in place.
Something we get asked a lot is: is this supposed to be used with the slick or the rubberized side facing up? Technically the official answer is: the Finnish Defence Forces specified that it should be used with the rubberized fabric facing up, against your sleeping bag. Then again the practical truth is that it does also work the other way around, just a bit differently. Our official opinion on the matter is: use it which ever way you like, both ways have their own merits.

Title: 4-day field test in the woods – absolutely amazing!
I just tested the backpack and the sleeping pad for four days straight in the woods, and I am absolutely thrilled!
The Backpack: Super comfortable to carry, no pressure points, and it has the perfect amount of space and organization for a multi-day outdoor trip. Even after hours of hiking, it still felt great.
The Sleeping Pad: Incredibly comfortable! It kept the ground cold away perfectly, and I slept really well and deeply every single night – which isn't always a given when camping.

So, lets say its more for people that spend really a lot of time in outdoor and not for new bushcraft fan, its more a isomatt for survival and not for confort, if you want a confort night bring your inflatable pad, if you want a real experience of the nature and outdoor than bring this pad and you will have the full nature experience.

Don’t expect too much! It feels really durable, but I would go to something else if you’re not comfortable on hard ground (or you can effectively mix it with a inflatable pad). I personally spend a lot of time directly on the ground, so it makes a perfect standalone sleeping pad for me! I used it in a tent and for some chill-time and it made the job done. The extra coating around the pad is also great, I got to pour some water on it and it didn’t seem to soak it!

Great ground pad overall! Wish for it to be a tiny bit thicker but ofc that would make it pretty bulky. It’s comfortable and got great integrated sheets on each side. The absolutely best feature though is the straps that are sewn into it. This pad for winter use should be used with a thick layer underneath as the pad is thin.

I'm military and i had it for a 3 months training sleeping outside non stop, it's about 500g heavier than standards ones and a bit bulky but it's ten times better than any sleeping pads i've been through.
It brings such comfort in snow, rain, mossy and humid terrain or even sleeping on roots, i wasn't expecting it to change so much about my field experience, love it would buy it again
only "downside" it's pretty long, it's a good thing but i like to shorten mines to my size and you can't really with this one
