Designed in Finland. Produced in the EU. Used by the FDF. Trusted worldwide.
A seriously sensible, utterly functional and rugged all-around combat/daypack, made to meet the diverse carrying needs of the regular soldier. Total capacity with side pouches filled ca. 30 litres, with many external attachment points for additional gear.

”Kahakka” is Finnish for a “small battle” or “skirmish”, quite suitable for what is literally a small combat pack. The “special thing” about the Kahakkas is that these really aren’t special at all. These are serious packs for the 99% of users who need a straightforward all-around combat/daypack with enough scalability and versatility for various jobs and changing situations.
The Kahakka packs are made for the realities of military use. We have over half a century of experience of making gear for the Finnish Defence Forces, who prefer their gear to endure up to and beyond a decade of vigorous use. The Kahakkas are rugged indeed, but we have not sacrificed functionality, nor dumbed down the design, for the sake of durability. What we have here is a peculiar mix of functionality, comfort and traditional Savotta ruggedness.
The Kahakka 25L has a total capacity, side pouches included, of ca. 30 litres, plus numerous attachment options for extra gear. The Kahakka 25L has enough capacity for all sorts of essential mission related and personal equipment, including bulky cold weather clothing which is a must-have here in Finland.
The main compartments fold top lid is quick and easy to open and close using two SR buckles. Fast like a zipper, but super reliable in extended use in mud, sand and snow. Inside is a hydration bladder / radio compartment, with two tie-down loops and a hydration bladder attachment webbing tab on the top. Each side of the pack has one antenna/cable/tube port.
The pleated, expandable side pouches allow quick access to equipment such as water bottles, E-tools, bolt cutters etc. Each pouch has a capacity of ca. 3 litres, filled so that the top side compression strap tightens the pouch shut. When empty the pouches lay neat and flat. Vertical webbing loops keep the side compression straps neatly in place. The pouches have water drainage holes on the bottom.
Two side compression straps with steel G-hooks on either side of the pack offer both compression and a means of quickly strapping gear to the outside of the pack. The G-hooks are also a means for adding extra pouches/bags to the back of the pack.
The Kahakka 25L has two external zippered pouches. The one on top of the lid has a capacity of ca. 3 litres, suitable for NVDs, water bottles etc. The flat one on the front of the pack has a webbing loop with D-ring inside, good for small trinkets and valuables. Each zipper has two pullers with generous cord loops to silence them and make the zippers easier to use with thick gloves on.
PALS webbing on the front and bottom allows attachment of extra gear using elastic cord or packing straps. Webbing loops above the side pouches can be used to secure gear with cord, carabiners or packing straps.
The back is padded and supported with a thick and stiff closed cell foam pad, placed in an open topped compartment on the outside of the pack. The pad can quickly be removed and reinserted, you can use it as a sitting/kneeling pad or use the compartment to carry other equipment, a tarp or poncho for example.
The padded, contoured shoulder straps attach to steel D-rings. The D-rings allow the shoulder straps to turn and conform to various body shapes. The shoulder straps can be removed and replaced if needed. The sternum strap is removable and can be moved up and down the shoulder straps as desired.
The 50 mm webbing belt closes using a super secure Berg buckle, very easy to use, even with thick and cold weather gloves on. The belt can be tucked away into the back pad compartment when not in use.
The main body of the pack is made from 1000D Cordura for high abrasion resistance, with details such as the back pad compartment and fold top sides being made from lighter and less coarse 500D. The zippers are covered and have two pullers, so you always have a backup in case one puller fails.
The shoulder straps are easily replaceable if damaged, the bottom straps can be replaced with any length of 25 mm webbing if needed.
All plastic buckles can be removed and replaced without sewing. The side compression straps use steel G-hooks, which will not fail and offer the option to quickly hook on extra gear to the back of the pack.
First of all we are not the experts on what you need, you are. The big difference between these two is of course the size, the 25L being considerably bigger than the 15L and also having a belt and additional boxy pouch on top of the lid.
If you commonly need to carry bulky winter clothing on top of your other essential gear, as we do here in Finland: get the 25L. If you want a streamlined, compact pack and don’t need that extra 10 litres of space: get the 15L. Either way both packs offer many options to add extra gear to the outside, and good compression straps to tighten down the pack when half full.
Usually orders are dispatched within 1–3 weekdays and arrive within 4-10 weekdays after dispatch. For more information see our Delivery terms.

We ship domestic orders with Posti. Shipping starts from 4,90 € for parcels under 10 kg delivered to service points and 11,90 € for parcels under 15 kg delivered to your home.

Very happy with this superb backpack. Best (and propably last) I ever owned. It is like a clowncar: you can stuff so much stuff in it.

Sick pack. Been using It for more than a year, weekly for going climbing and every now and then for some trekking. Last week i used it paired with the Askare to do a two day trek up to 3040 meters bringing all the necessary stuff, more or less 12kg. Couldn't be happier! Very very satisfied, great comfort when set up correctly, you can manage weight between shoulders and waist. Used the Askare for the final push to the summit. Might get a Valjas light belt to pad the waistband. Quite tempted to get a rintamus for the ultimate modular experience!

Excellent backpack. It is particularly robust and has a good design. I had never bought such a high-quality backpack before that can be used for everything. Very relevant for carrying grenades ! (lol)

I love this backpack! I've been using for everyday stuff since October. I liked the size and the ability to carry a bunch of stuff, a 15'' laptop (with sleeve), meal&snacks boxes, 1L canteen, a notebook and other useful EDC like portable phone charger, raincover, etc. I also love the expandable size pockets, they are by far my favourite feature of the pack, as they are very spacious you can fit so many things, now I can't imagine a pack without them, they became a non-negotiable feature! I had the possibility to use the Kahakka25L multiple times in air travel: it is Ryanair's underseat compatible if you don't overstuff it and here the compression straps come really handy, giving you great flexibility. Speaking of flexibility, it can easily hold items for a 3-4 days trip (maybe even more in the right conditions). I went for a weekend-trip (thursday to sunday) during the winter and I could carry all the cold-weather gear I needed (various layers and thick snow-compatible pants) and clothes for each day, I packed so much stuff that I ended not using everything! (this time however the pack went in the overhead compartment). This month I took the pack to the first true hike (Mt. Teide, 3.715m, highest peak of Spain) and it held up very nicely. The only minor issue would be the hip straps, maybe not well suited for such a long hike as they are a bit thin and unpadded, I liked the buckle however, very use the close and open swiflty in the need to grab something quickly in the lack. In any case, I loved the ruggedness and the extendable side pouches, as said above. All around, a great pack, I highly recommend it!

Superb backpack! Bought it as a diaper bag for our newborn. Turns out it works perfect for that too! Easy to access compartments. Feels good on the back carrying it. The best, when our baby grows up I'll have an awesome backpack for outdoors activites!

Superb piece of kit. I use it as a day pack and for short trips abroad. I absolutely love the side pockets- they fold away nice and small, but they are huge when fully deployed. Highly recommend this bag if you’re looking for a spacious everyday bag, and you can take it on a plane as a small personal bag if you don’t over pack it, and maybe remove the foam back pad.

Greetings from Poland! The backpack is great – durable, functional, and comfortable. A bull's eye. I pray I'll see this backpack in the Wz93 Panther camouflage someday :D

I use my kahakka as training gear bag, boxing gloves and towel fit in nicely and it is very comfortable to carry. I was a bit afraid it would look overly military or spec-ops, but my reflectors soften the overall look.

Great backpack! From 5 days hiking trip to transporting wood for spoon carving and it also resist asphalt abrasion very well ( aka motorcycle crash) Only the hip belt sucks in my opinion. I wish savotta would sell a complimentary products to bear more loads on the backpack, pelleted hips, or another hip belt wider and more comfortable for the multi days hike. Like the jaakari Cheers If it's possible to make one I'll buy it Best backpack out there!

Finally, an assault pack that sits comfortably on top of a plate carrier without destroying your shoulders or feeling any sort of discomfort! Quality wise, it's bombproof and probably would outlast me even with regular use out in the field. Lastly, it's simple yet super modular, quite roomy for typical infantry stuff as well as the outdoors. Couldn't be more satisfied with this pack, thing's awesome!!!

Great and rugged backpack for day to day use, with a snug slot for a water bladder that also works great for laptops. I've used this backpack almost everyday for work, school, the gym and military exercises; and the best feature this backpack has is it's water resistance. On one exercise I left my pack on a resting spot for over an hour with pouring rain, I was sure the clothes inside would be soaked, but to my surprise everything was completely dry. So when I walk to university I never have to worry about rain frying my laptop. Durability wise I've experienced some light tearing in one of the shoulder strap connectors after regular use for over one year, and it should be easy to fix DIY. It's well worth the money.

Such a great stuff! This Kahakka is an essence of the true Finish🇫🇮 Sisu, absolutely unbeatable! Must have for everybody on active travelling. Kiitos!

I love my backpack, it fits great and the packing options are perfect for my every day use and hiking. Sadly the clip on the belt part broke rather quickly (see photo) . I accidentally stepped on it. If it is possible could you send me a new one or better a few more I will gladly pay for the extra ones. I’m definitely upgrading my backpack with extra packs so I can be flexible depending which adventure I’m about to engage. Thank you for making great gear.

Store owner replied: Hi!Thank you for your kind words and for choosing our gear. We’re sorry to hear about your broken buckle. While our buckles are durable, they can be damaged if stepped on or caught in a car door, for example. Our customer service team will reach out to you and help you get this fixed!
I got fed up by wearing out backpacks every couple of years. I've always taken care of them, but that was still not enough. Well, I have a feeling that the Kahakka could be the last backpack of my life (and not because I plan to die anytime soon :D ). In this "daypack" size, at least. I bought it mainly for single-day nature photography trips, but it's also great for easy hikes, city errands, groceries, etc. This is my first backpack from Savotta. I could repeat everyone's words here, this is a fantastic pack. But one thing that really hit me, was at the moment of unpacking. Every little strap neatly tucked away, zippers aligned to the middle, the whole pack folded so beautifully I could never replicate. I know, this has nothing to do with the actual quality of the product, but I think it greatly reflects the care and workmanship that goes into it. I felt like I was unpacking a luxury item, or some high quality custom suit. Not a single loose thread end, not a badly aligned stitching, no asymmetry, just a perfectly made and packed product. Whoever worked on it, they really did care, and I can't help but appreciate their effort. In use, it's really comfortable for being so simple and otherwise not as ergonomic as many outdoor packs. The shape of the shoulder straps is just perfect. The berg buckle is great, although it can be a bit more difficult to close than side-release buckles (especially while riding a bike). But opening it is so satisfying, it won't be replaced :D It is certainly not an easy-access pack. The main compartment opens quickly, but the zipped pockets, as well as the expandable side pockets are a little slow to use. It's not a problem, takes just a few seconds more, but if someone wanted a pack to quickly grab and pack stuff, this is not the best option. The side pockets need adjustment from the G-hooks to be opened/closed, which is not a big deal, but would be a bit annoying if I had to do it frequently all day long. The sitting pad (also highly recommend) fits perfectly into the water bladder pocket. Since the pack doesn't have too much organizers, I usually attach the Kukkaro for the small stuff. Haven't tried it in hot weather yet, but it's not a large pack, and I won't go ultra running, I'm sure it will be fine. My only concern is the durability of straps with the metal G-hooks. Time will tell, it might need repair sooner or later. I'll come back to it in a decade or two :D I'm really not this type of guy, but I even got a bit emotional looking at it, realizing that this thing might be with me for the rest of my life, making memories together. So yeah, it's good stuff. Buy it.

Store owner replied: Thank you so much for this amazing review! We’re thrilled to hear how much you love your Kahakka! It means a lot to know it’s already making memories with you. We hope it continues to serve you well for many years (and adventures!) to come.
This past weekend, September 26, 2025, I carried my 25L backpack up a snowy mountain in Spain. The temperature was -7ºC, and I had my backpack in the snow for almost an hour without any of the straps getting wet or freezing. I tightened the straps to securely fasten my snowshovel. I fully loaded it with gear, and the chest and waist straps didn't come loose at any point. They also didn't cause any shoulder pain during a 10km hike. In short, I've never had such a good backpack, and I'd like to try more products from this brand for my future treks.

I got the Savotta Kahakka 25L for forest trips and everyday use, and I’ve really grown to love it. It feels incredibly solid and well-made – you can just tell it’s built to handle just about anything. The pack sits comfortably, even when it’s fully loaded, and it has lots of clever details that make everyday use easier. I especially like the expandable side pockets and the fact that the back pad can be used as a sitting mat – I’ve already used that feature several times on hikes. All in all, it’s a super functional and well-designed backpack that works just as well outdoors as it does for daily use. You really get great value for the money here – I can definitely recommend it to others!

Amazing backpack. I saw the backpack and knew that this is what i was looking for since years. I buy all my backpacks with longterm usage in mind, but this might be the final backpack for my current and future needs. I use it for commuting in city, hiking and travel. I am so happy that it's so versatile. Black does not look like a military bag, which was important for me for daily use in the city. I don't have any other use for other backpacks i own anymore and when i use them, i wish i had my Kahakka instead. Although Savotta does a good job explaining what to expect when buying the backpack (with a little help from the friendly community, who shares a lot of information as well), i am nonetheless amazed how much i can pack and how easy it is to carry everything. I also like that it's possible to hack and modify small details. The one modification i will look into is to install white lining to make items inside the bag more visible for EDC. I understand that Savotta is producing military hardware, but i still wish they had one or two color options of their models for civilian use with more visible inner and more stylish outer color. I look forward to getting more bags from Savotta and would recommend this backpack to everyone.

Made to endure 🤝💪

I am satisfied with the Kahakka 25l bag. Very high quality materials, quality stitching. Will last a long time. An additional plus is the replaceable and purchaseable bag fittings, it is always possible to repair the bag. I recommend it.

Great all around backpack! Don’t see myself needing another pack for a long time. Can be packed down tiny for flights and can be loaded huge without issue for 2-3 day hikes.

Great backpack for everyday use, add a lot of things outside, like sleeping mat or big whool blanket. You can also compress the sides so it takes very little space when you don't have it fully packed. Expensive yes but you will have this for many many years to come. Recommend!

I deliberated for a long time before buying this pack because it's quite a big investment. But I am very glad that I did. Six months since purchasing and I have used this pack for multiple hikes and camping adventures. Three things really stand out for me with this pack. The design is wonderful with thought put into every facet, the materials are of exceptional quality and the overall build quality is second to none. A particular highlight for me is the versatility of the pack and how I can add pouches and utility straps to carry additional kit should I need to. The cult of Savotta is very real!

At first, some comments on the internet made me doubt because of the discomfort and little ventilation on the back… Discomfort? Where? It fits me like a glove! And little ventilation, maybe, but there are many positive points that outweigh a simply perfect 100% ventilation. I’m definitely sticking with this brand for the rest of my outdoor backpacks (which unfortunately I can’t change all at once hehe!)

Pushed this little guy to its limits on the Glacier Blanc in the Massif des Écrins in France (3300m). The 25l feel more like 30 to me + the side pockets are big too. Made to Endure
