The Jääkäri S is a highly versatile daypack, well suited for outdoors, travel and everyday use. The slim and compact design combined with low profile shoulder straps offer unhindered movement in cramped spaces and difficult terrain. The PALS attachment webbing offers a lot of options for mounting of additional pouches and gear to the outside of the pack, extending it’s capabilities beyond just a daypack.
The main compartment is closed using an extremely simple lid system: the mouth of the bag folds down over itself when the lid is closed, creating a secure seal. This is a very simple, very bombproof design. A zippered pocket inside the lid offers safe storage for your wallet, keys, travel documents and phone.
The closure system and side compression straps offer some adjustability to the volume of the pack. Strap it down tight or loosen it up depending on the carried load. The Jääkäri S capacity can be adjusted from 20 to 30 litres, depending on how you fold the top lid.
A hydration compartment is attached to the interior back wall. Tube ports on both sides allow you to route the hydration tube from the left or right, while leaving the other port free for other uses such as antennas or cables.
The low profile shoulder straps are made from 40 mm wide webbing, with ladderlock buckles in the bottom corners of the bag for adjustment. The 25 mm webbing on top of the shoulder straps allow you to attach sternum straps, hydration tubes etc.
MILITARY GRADE MATERIALS
The majority of materials we use for our commercial production are the same which we use in equipment for the Finnish Defence Forces and other defence and security clients. Our most commonly used fabric in load carrying equipment is extremely wear resistant 1000D Cordura, as per FDF specs, with polyurethane coating on the inside. The webbing and edge tape we use are, again as per FDF specs, strong polyester webbing in various widths and thicknesses for different applications.
Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories are by default compliant with strict FDF specs for NIR reflection levels, as should be since these same materials are used in official military equipment.
MODULAR AND ADAPTABLE
PALS webbing on the sides and lid allow you to attach additional pouches and gear. This system offers numerous options for configuring the pack to suit your specific needs. Not only for pouches though, the PALS webbing can also be used to attach utility straps, shock cord, carabiners etc. Four webbing loops at the bottom can be used to attach utility straps.
The Jääkäri S can be rolled up to quite a tight package for carry inside a larger backpack for use as a daypack.

I love this backpack, its compact but still can fit a lot of stuff inside or even outside, its light and comfortable but still rugged and durable, for the price i will never regret buying this
I bought this backpack way back in 2017 when the name was still "Minijääkäri". The Jaakari S has served me well all these years. It has been used daily and I have not shown it any mercy. I have been carrying loads of 6-10 kg almost daily with it and occasionally even more heavier loads.
You can pack more stuff in this backpack than you think by the looks of it. It will outperform all the other backpacks on this size range in terms of durability, maximum capacity and modularity. Most of the time all your daily needs will fit in the main compartment.
Jaakari S is also surprisingly nice to carry. The thin low profile shoulder sraps are a no-go for some people, but your body will get used to them in a couple of months. My only complaint of them is that the original way to sew the shoulder straps on the pack will eventually lead to some wear and tear on the attachment point as shown on the picture. This happens if you like to keep the backpack on one shoulder for extended periods of time. It took me 9 years to get 2-3mm tear on the shoulder strap edge so it would be totally fine for another 20+ years at least.
Continuos use also causes some wear and tear on the inside of the Jaakari S, but you can easily burn the edges of the seams again to stop the unravelling of the material itself.
I really like my Jaakari so I sent it back for Savotta for repairs, maintenance and modification couple months ago. I can highly recommend the Savotta gearcare service.
Now my Jaakari S has a steel ring based attachment on the shoulder straps on the top of the backpack. In addition I had ladder lock buckles added to the top of the backpack so I can combine it with Jaakari L lid.
If you want better modularity you should choose Jaakari S, if you want padded straps and more out of the box backpack I would go with Kahakka backpacks.
Don't actually remember when I bought it but it was in the first months after the introduction of Jääkäri S. The pack has seen daily bike commutes with a laptop and assortment, traveling by airplane, moose hunting and hauling pretty much anything I could shove into it. Nowadays it serves as gym bag as the smaller Kahakka is better suited to my other daily use. The only signs of use it has stem from one occasion roughly 7 years ago when I decided to use it to carry a car battery. Of course the battery leaked halfway through on the way home and the battery acid burned couple of holes to it and left lots of white stains on it. Well, I'll never do that again but the pack survived.

I've have had this backbag since 2018 or even maybe 2017. Can't remember anymore. It's been my daily driver from day one. Loyal servant ever since. No matter what I need to carry it will handle it without any excuses. Urban or outdoors, everything goes.

My Jääkäri S came into my life over six years ago and it’s been a reliable partner since. I love the elegantly simple design that makes it versatile to use in any condition and easy-to-clean after. It does it all: daily carry, travel, grocery shopping, etc. I’ve strapped a bike to it, crammed it full of stuffed animals, and carried tools. It cinches up quite small, but can expand dramatically when needed.
There are also some overlooked features that I didn’t realize I’d value so much. It has a huge haul loop which is both more comfortable to grip when carrying the bag by hand and easier to hang from a tree when the ground is covered in mud. The bag can also be set on the ground like a grocery sack with the lid open so you can toss items into it without having to hold it open each time.
The durability is outstanding. The only signs of wear are frayed threads on the inside of the bag (which are easily trimmed/burned), and a little of the polyurethane coating is rubbed thin where it contacts the corners of my multipurpose map. Those coatings simply don’t last forever.
My only issue are the shoulder straps – I don’t find them comfortable. The straps were fine while wearing a plate carrier, but not as much in a t-shirt. This may just be a problem specific to the shape of me and the Jääkäri S since I’ve had other bags with similar straps that never gave me trouble. This was easily remedied by attaching some aftermarket pads.
There is no bag I’ve owned that I felt I could trust as much as this guy.

Regarding the shoulder straps, thank you for the honest feedback. While aftermarket pads are certainly one solution, it may also be worth while to check in with our Gear care -team and ask, if it is possible to switch the shoulder straps to a sturdier backpack harness. They can assess what options might be possible and help find a solution that works better for you.
Since 2022 this pack has been with me 99% of the time I step outside my front door. Doesn't matter if it's a bike ride, bushcraft, grocery shopping or a long train ride. This has been the most versatile and comfortable backpack I've ever had. Only wear I can see are loose seams on the inside, like loose threads sticking out, but without any practical disadvantage. Just a visual thing so far.

Ich habe einen Rucksack in Größe S.
Er ist wirklich gut: robust, hochwertig und zuverlässig. Der Preis des Rucksacks selbst ist mit dem der Konkurrenz vergleichbar. Das Zubehör und die Extras sind allerdings sehr teuer. Rechnet man das Zubehör hinzu, liegt der Gesamtpreis deutlich über dem der Konkurrenz.
Zusätzlich plane ich, mir eine Askare-Hüfttasche zuzulegen – eine sinnvolle Anschaffung. Der größte Rucksack mit Tragegestell ist ebenfalls hervorragend, derzeit habe ich jedoch weder Campingausflüge noch Vogelbeobachtungen geplant. Sollte ich künftig eine längere Wanderung unternehmen, werde ich mir einen Savotta zulegen. Außerdem mag ich die Finnen einfach als Menschen.
This is one of many of my savotta products this backpack has been with me on lots of trips an adventure from the tropical rain forest in equdor to thailand and south east Asia and all over Europe and the UK it has helped up extremely well in all conditions and environments i have had it for 4 years and it still looks as good as new i uses it daily I highly recommend to anyone looking for a small lightweight durable backpack

Fits perfect for taking your lunch and some clothes to work. It has the ability to expand a bit more for when you need to carry a bit more, such as laundry from work.
I got this backpack for christmas years ago and since then it has been a great and reliable companion. Its simplicity and ruggedness is unmatched by any other backpack in its size. From short vacations to trips by bike, commuting to work and outdoor-events the jääkäri S excelled in every setting.
I do recommend it for everybody who loves dourable gear and the great outdoors!
This was the first bag I got from savotta and it is great kept all my papers, gear and tools dry and it makes a great travel bag for going through airports and despite being exposed to the sun for long stretches of time it still looks great the photo doesn't do it justice
Great little bag, especially for day walks – I use the back plate for extra support, though did find some comfort issues regarding rubbing in the lower back and strap weight issues when walking long-distances of and so have made some adjustments.
Namely I now have a battle belt attached via two Casström No 3 Danglers and then used a Jääkäri L/XL hip belt SR buckle strap, cut the SR ends off and looped the danglers through them instead and then attached it securely to the BB via a ITW Classic TG. With the BB is gives a lot more comfort which then allows you to have extra modular bags too and quickly detach the belt if needed.
Secondly, I added permanent shoulder pads via attaching a Keikka backpack harness. I had a number of ITW Classic TG sewn onto webbing straps made, which allowed me to easily mount the harness to the shoulder straps.
Regardless, still a great bag, especially given the build quality and range of modular options.
Having bought this in 2019 I can't say more how impressed I am with its adaptability, build quality and style. A really bomb proof piece of kit that has joined me on day trips to other cities for work, weeks away across europe and overnighters in the English countryside.
An absolute must for the gear enthusiast, small enough for your day to day but capable of so much more if you commit some time to learning what you need personally from a small pack.
A few years ago I got my car stuck in an icy hill, had nothing to put the gravel into, so I had to sacrifice my Jääkäri S. It simply didn’t care. He’s still doing great, and I’ll the him you said hi.

For years i was dreaming about this backback and i wanted it.. i needed it and finally i got it. This is the best backpack ever and i’m enjoying every bit of it. I recently added two 4L Pouches and the Savotta Raincover.
I have this pack about 15 months now and I added some pouches for versatility and flexibility.
I've used it on day overnighters when scouting with my section. I mainly use it as a day pack for the woods.
It's rugged and comfortable, fully loaded, on my 4km hike to the woods. It's been dropped, kicked, dragged, sat on and it's still in great condition.
I highly recommend this as a day pack.
It is my firs Savotta. I was surprised by simplicity and quality. I'm using backpack as EDC/city backpack, carying laptop and other stuff, but sometimes also some ammo while going to shooting range. Backpack never disapointed me (I have it over one year now). Upgraded with shoulders pads, medikit, admin pouch, original Savotta raincover and pad inserted inside and also with IIIA ballistic panel inserted inside. Nobody knows it, so do not tell anyone! :-D
This backpack has been in daily use for five years and it looks almost new.
I use it fall the time - daily commuting, carrying groceries and few day hikes.
The best feature is expandability. When I go to office and have only laptop in backpack, I can make it really slim. On my way home I can visit grocery store and fit almost week's groceries in it.
I also love how easy it is to modify it even better. It was simple to replace some of plastic buckles with g-hooks and sew few loops inside backpack to accommodate my laptop case. Not to mention possibilities molle gives.
I'm even happy with simplistic shoulder straps.
I bought this bag 3 years ago from a great French retailer (Resilience Nordic) and since then I have used it for many outings in nature in all seasons and in all weathers. A lot of day hikes where, not very loaded, it remains largely comfortable and also a few bivouacs over two days where, by adding external pouches of the brand, I was able to have the necessary space to take all the useful equipment. I added shoulder pads for more comfort. The design is very qualitative and the resistance is foolproof! I recommend it without any hesitation!
The Savotta Jääkäri S is an amazing rucksack in my experience. My partner bought it for my Christmas present a few years ago after some heavy hint dropping and I was very impressed on Christmas Day. I’ve used it mostly as a day pack on many hikes, I’ve camped out of it more than a few times and I’ve always had people asking about it. The Molle webbing on the outside of the rucksack is incredibly durable and allows some customisation using various pouches and attatchments. I LOVE how rugged the rucksack it, in the past I’ve had rucksacks develop holes and tears after a year or so but I’ve had my Jääkäri for 5 years this Christmas and it still looks incredible. It’s been used in many of my various adventures, it’s been underground, to the top of mountains, gorge walking, rock climbing and a bunch of other hardwearing activities, It’s been through all different types of weather and is still in top shape.

I bought this backpacks a couple years ago and use it as my daily for everything. I recently got in a motorcyle accident, broke some bones. The backpack survived without any major damage and I will still continue to use it even after my recovery. Or until I buy a bigger one
The Jäkkari S is excellent for backcountry excursions. It is also highly modular thanks to its accessories—allowing you to carry everything you need while keeping it perfectly organized. Carrying this backpack is incredibly comfortable; no matter how heavily you pack it, you can barely feel it on your back. There are no hard parts to dig in or pinch!
Sehr guter Rucksack. Bei dem Preis hätte aber auch ein besseres Rückenpolster nicht geschadet. Im ganzen muss man aber sagen das er seinen Job tut ich hab mit ihm jetzt schon mehrfach Biwakiert und Nehm ihn jeden Tag auf die Arbeit mit und hatte nie das Gefühl das er nicht das erfüllen könnte was ich von ihm will.
I take this backpack with me everywhere, rolled-up and stored in my Keikka 50L. It is strong enough to be loaded with sand or water for rucking when travelling or just for day hikes. Despite the thinner shoulder straps, this has now replace my other bags!
The backpack arrived both on time and in good shape. The build quality of it is good and can't exactly complain had alot more space than i thought originally all in all solid backpack both comfortable but it does grind into my shoulders a bit if i fill the backpack with items
Jääkäri S -repun suunnittelu on pelkistettyä ja toimivaa ja kestävyys on huippuluokkaa. Erikseen myytävä rintaremmi on mielestäni pakollinen varuste tähän. Rintaremmin soljet kannattaa pujottaa vielä ylimääräisen kerran, etteivät häviä, kuten minulle kävi. Savotta käsitteli kuitenkin reklamaation asiallisesti, jota arvostan.
Any one have the same experience with the pack regarding to the straps? They aren’t padded, love the pack really cool size and super well build it, put when you have it loaded to the full the straps aren’t comfortable, anyone has the same experience? Best regards MB

The good news is that we've taken this into account for our new and upcoming backpacs.
This pack is by far one of the most versatile packs in my possession. I've taken it climbing, hiking, motorcycling, cycling, traveling and surprisingly, it does amazingly as a supermarket errand bag.
Be aware that the cordura fabric is extremely tough so your delicate merino sportswear will not like the friction. I solved the issue by putting on a heavyweight overshirt.
I am still finding new ways to use it and organize the gear in the cavernous space inside.
Everyday when I see it, touch it I have a deep pleasure
because of the quality of the material the quality of the
work. I never thought that it will be possible to love a backpack :)
My JÄÄKÄRI is the first pack I’ve had that I’ll empty from work crap, only to refill it with off time items or because my kids didn’t bring their own carry gear to haul any shopping’s around. Before I’d grab another bag and I have few really nice ones like Goruck and Eberlystock. But this one is different because the size and possible expansion makes it just rightly applicable in so many situations. The unpadded straps, despite being D1000, haven’t been an issue at all. I added a sternum strap because I just like that for resting my thumbs onto when on the go, but not really needed. Because it’s simple, yet built like a tank, you might say it’s an oddity or a contradiction of itself, in a way. It’s a light, simple, widely applicable but rough and reliable. A freakin lot of thought must have gone into the design, cuz it works.
