I have had the Hatka 12L for about a year now. In its original form I walk the west highland way and found it comfortable on the shoulders and back, as well as spacious and well organised within the pack.
However, since then I have added the Kahakka backpack harness and the MPP foam mat that goes in with a source 3l hydration bladder for extra comfort and support.
Finally, I have added a Jääkäri L/XL hip belt which easily hangs off the bottom D-ring attachment points, with the use of a pair of Casström D-rings rigged up – adding extra comfort and pounches. and have it attached to my larger backpacks without issue.
I have used this as a daypack for 50km+ walks so far and it is very comfortable, with the plan being to use it going forward for longer-distance walking events, etc – but regardless, it makes for a versatile and dependable pack.

About what I expected: rugged and practical.
Feels very robust and is surprisingly comfortable on the back. So far I used it for camping in Poland and Sweden with two 6L side pouches and it gave me all the space that I needed.
I think it was worth the price because using it made me confident that it might even outlast me.
Nice construction and design. Versatile to switch C metal clamps with plastic buckles if you want, for easier attach/detach of accesories, clothes, etc...
Along with Savotta's 4x5 GP pouch, it stands by itself on a leveled surface, which is nice.
Two small pockets on lid and front help with organizing smaller stuff perfectly
Only 4 out of 5 stars because to me the open design of the side pockets is a bad idea, a closed lid (like the one on their GP pouches) would be best, and although I read their design idea had military usage in mind, still for civilians I think it's a room for improvement that could be easily be solved without making military usage worse.

Perfect for hunting, shorter hikes and all sorts of day trips.
Fantastic rugged backpack, which is small enough to also use as a small carry on for the budget airlines (Easyjet, Ryanair etc).
Expandable side punches give great flexibility.
Pouch is what you would expect from Savotta: indestructible, designed with great eye to details, and works in rain, cold, and dark environment. What makes my pouch special is customizations made by Savotta.
I was looking for a pouch for waist belt of my rucksack, that can be used with big gloves and that can hold keys and a phone. And no zippers, thank you very much, so it is easy to use from my waist and with gloves.
This pouch was very close to what I wanted, but missed a critical feature. I wanted the pouch to have a separate compartment for keys, so they don’t scratch stuff in the main compartment. Also I wanted to have an attachment point, so the keys would not disappear into the woods. So I contacted Savotta gear care service to see if my wishes can be made true.
With skillful persons Savotta, it took only one iteration to land on a design that can be added to the pouch and meets my requirements. Now my pouch has a separate pouch sewn on the back of the pouch for the keys and a D ring that keep keys, or other stuff I would rather not want to loose, secure.
10/10 service from Savotta!
Perfect cup for take away coffee in the city or in nature .. great to buy things produced in Europe ! Love it … together with my Savotta kahakka always on the trail ..
Thanks a lot an keep up the great work 😎
Love it, really handy, easy to open and fill with items quickly, clamshell opening comes in handy for getting quick access to items. The zippers and fabric are super high quality and everything works really well. I'm using it daily for hikes, work and EDC. Also able to mount my Savotta Kukkaro to carry small items. Its fantastic, 5/5 would recommend. This will be your new favorite EDC backpack, i guarantee.
havent used it for long so far, but its a very durable, comfortable and reliable backpack. i use it for day hiking and even short overnight trips, but my setup is pretty minimal. i highly recommend getting the elastic cord kit, since it gives you extra storage for items like outer layers or cooking pans. i even used it to make a small bear spray holster on the hip belt. great pack overall.
It's a side pouch, you know what it is and what it does. It's made by Savotta so you know it will be of the best construction.
I want to focus on the size of the 8 liter though. I had two on my Jäkääri XL (on which they fit perfectly) during a week-long hike. I used one of the pouches as my food and cooking compartment for the day. As it could fit my entire Trangia 27 kit, fuel bottle, the days ration of food and snacks and the cutlery needed. Loved to have all that available and contained in one single compartment, not needing to open the pack and dig around.
My experience with the Savotta Varjelus Plate Carrier has been excellent. And it doesn't stop at the Varjelus; I also use their backpacks and pouches, and I am very satisfied with them. The products are extremely durable—they can literally withstand war—and this has been proven by many users.
EX-harness + pari klipsua ja placard sai rakennettua melko pätevän lippaiden kantolaitteen. Hyvä välietappi kun tavoitteena rakentaa varjelus kun sitä saa taas m05 kuosissa!
A very versatile pouch with surprisingly much space. The internal pocket and carabiner loop make it easy to organize smaller items, and I mainly used it for gear I wanted to access quickly. It fits the Savotta Kantamus 40 perfectly and sits very close to the pack if you route the side compression straps through the MOLLE webbing. One thing to keep in mind: because the pouch covers almost the entire side of the Kantamus, the lower side pocket becomes difficult to use. Overall, a very practical and well-designed addition to the pack.
A very versatile and well-designed pouch. I used it on my Savotta Kantamus 40 and found it perfect for carrying either my Durston X-Mid tent or rain gear. As always with Savotta, it feels extremely robust and built to take abuse. The roll-top closure is also a great feature, as it gives you a bit of extra flexibility and allows the pouch to be slightly overloaded when needed. Simple, tough and very practical.
Absolutely flawless.
I’ve just spent a full month backpacking around Peru with this backpack, putting it through pretty much every environment you can imagine — from the desert and dry heat of Lima to the cold, high-altitude Andes, as well as rain, dust, sand and long days of travelling by bus and hiking.
The comfort is simply outstanding. What I love most about this backpack is how incredibly adaptable and customizable it is. You can really make it fit your own way of travelling, which makes a huge difference when you’re carrying it for hours every day.
I would have loved to have been able to get the 60L version as well, as I’m already thinking about using the backpack for longer expeditions and more demanding trips. Honestly, this feels like the kind of backpack you buy once and keep for life.
I did manage to break one of the zippers on the lid, but honestly, that was after giving the backpack a lot of abuse over the month. And even then, I had a spare zipper with me and replaced it in just a few minutes, so it wasn’t really an issue.
The backpack performed incredibly well in the rain, cold, heat, sand and dust. After a month of putting it through all kinds of conditions, it still looks and feels ready for the next adventure.
For me, this is what a proper outdoor backpack should be: extremely durable, comfortable, versatile and built to be used hard. I’m already looking forward to taking it on my next expedition and trying more Savotta gear in the future.
Thank you for making equipment that feels genuinely built for a lifetime. Keep up the amazing work!
Careful everyone, if you say Khahakka 3 times in the woods, you summon the spirit of Simo Häyhä, and if there are no Russians for him to haunt, you have to appease his spirit with all of your cured meats. It is known.
This pack is built like farm equipment, distributes it's load evenly, and is fully adjustable to a larger frame. At 15 liters, it sounds small, but it's been molded by Finnish Forest Shaman and is not bound by physical dimensions. They don't include that information in the product description so as not to scare people, you have to email them. The side pockets are amazingly useful, they fit all manner of tools, water containers and gear. A 20 liter dry bag fits in the main compartment and conforms to the square shape better than a 15l and is just small enough to roll down and clip, keeping your rain gear/insulation layers or sensitive stuff dry. I use mine as a woods day bag that fits all the essentials (Food, emergency shelter, shemagh, lighter, navigation, small ifak, first aid, cordage and rigging, water/ filter system, repair, signaling, power bank, headlamp, knife.) It carries a 15 pound load like it's nothing, the side pockets hold my canteens firmly with no wiggle, and the main compartment is easily organized and accessible. It reminds me of a mussette bag, if it went to Finland, got rebuilt as a tractor and has returned ready to outlive us all.
Used in combination with the valjas belt and created an exceptionally convenient motorcycle waist bag. Can be placed also on top of the jacket since the belt has a lot of adjustment. Stitched inside the remaining Velcro from the happy patch and added elastic organiser and trinket pouch placement. Super heavy duty, the belt can pass through the nukka back pack an have additional waist support and pouches added.
